Chicken Wings

Chipotle Chicken Wings

  • Author: Abby Turner

  • 2 cups Molasses BBQ Sauce – Stubbs has a really good one or Weber Real Molasses BBQ Sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups of dry Chipotle BBQ Rub – I like a sweeter chicken rub so I like Heath Riles Honey Chipotle Rub, but McCormick GrillMasters has a great sweet and spicy rub that will do the trick too!
  • 1/2 cup Liquid Smoke
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon white sugar
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 18 wings
  • Cilantro for garnish

  1. Heat oven to 300 degrees.
  2. Cover cooking sheet with foil with edges folded up (you will make a boat with a top layer of foil later)
  3. In a bowl, combine liquid smoke, onion powder, white sugar, and salt.
  4. Toss all wings in the mixture until coated and place on cooking sheet.
  5. Lightly sprinkle rub on your wings and top with a sprinkle of brown sugar.
  6. Place a top piece of foil over the wings and close to make a boat for the wings.
  7. Cook wings for 20 minutes, rotating half-way through.
  8. After 20 minutes of cooking – (wings should be at 185-190 degrees) remove from oven and coat with BBQ Sauce and the rest of the brown sugar.
  9. Put wings back in oven for 10 minutes to let brown sugar and sauce caramelize.
  10. If desire a super crispy crunch, turn Broil on High for 3-5 minutes and let the wings crunch up!
  11. Serve with more sauce and cilantro.
